Classic vs. Rapid vs. Clear Spray Tan: Which One Should You Book?
If you’ve made it to my booking page and immediately thought:
Okay… but which spray tan am I actually supposed to choose?
You are definitely not the only one.
Classic. Rapid. Clear.
If you don’t spend your life thinking about spray tan solutions—which I’m assuming most normal people do not—the difference between them probably isn’t obvious.
The good news is that there really isn’t a “best” spray tan.
There’s a best option for you, based on your schedule, your skin and what you want your post-appointment experience to look like.
So let’s make choosing one really simple.
The Quick Answer: Classic vs. Rapid vs. Clear
Here’s the easiest way to think about it:
Classic Glow: Best if you don’t mind a longer development time and can comfortably wear your solution for 8–12 hours.
Rapid Glow: Best if you want to rinse sooner, usually within approximately 3–5 hours.
Clear Glow: Best if you want a rapid tan without the instant cosmetic bronzer sitting on your skin after your appointment.
And if you still don't know which one sounds like you by the end of this?
Book the one that fits your schedule best.
We can handle the rest together.
What Is a Classic Spray Tan?
The Classic Glow is the traditional spray tan experience.
After your appointment, you'll wear your solution for approximately 8–12 hours before completing your first rinse.
For a lot of my clients, that means booking later in the day, putting on loose clothes afterward and rinsing the following morning.
Classic is probably your best option if:
You don't mind a longer development window
You're getting sprayed later in the day
You can go home and relax afterward
You like the traditional spray tan experience
You don't need to rinse before bed
It's simple, reliable and still a really good option if your schedule allows for it.
What Is a Rapid Spray Tan?
A Rapid Glow gives you the ability to complete your first rinse much sooner.
Depending on the result we're creating, you'll typically rinse approximately 3–5 hours after your appointment.
This is why Rapid has become such a popular option.
You can get sprayed earlier in the day and usually rinse before bed instead of sleeping in your tanning solution.
For anyone who hates the idea of keeping a spray tan on overnight, this can be a game changer.
Rapid is probably your best option if:
You want a shorter rinse window
You're getting sprayed during the day
You want to rinse before going to sleep
You have kids, work, plans or life happening around your appointment
You simply don't want tanning solution sitting on your skin for 8–12 hours
Rapid is especially convenient for my mobile clients because I can come to you, spray you at home, and a few hours later you can rinse and move on with your evening.
Does Rapid Mean My Tan Develops Completely in 3–5 Hours?
This is an important one.
No.
Your rinse time and your full development time are not the same thing.
Rapid means you're able to rinse the tanning solution off sooner.
Your actual tan will continue developing afterward.
So if you step out of that first shower and think:
Wait...where did my tan go?
Do not panic.
Especially after rinsing off the cosmetic bronzer, your skin may initially look lighter than you expected.
Give the color time to continue developing.
This is also why I don't recommend judging your final result immediately after that first rinse.
What Is a Clear Spray Tan?
The Clear Glow is also a rapid-developing option, but there's one major difference:
There is no instant cosmetic bronzer.
With many traditional spray tan solutions, the color you see immediately after you're sprayed is largely cosmetic guide color.
That's why you can walk out looking instantly tan even though your actual sunless tan hasn't fully developed yet.
Clear skips that part.
When I finish spraying you, you're not going to immediately look several shades darker.
Your color gradually develops over the next several hours.
Clear is probably your best option if:
You don't like the look or feel of cosmetic bronzer
You have things to do after your appointment
You want less concern about bronzer transferring onto clothing
You prefer a really clean post-spray experience
You want a rapid rinse option
You don't mind waiting to actually see your color develop
Clear is one of those services that can feel strange the first time because you're leaving your appointment thinking:
Did she actually spray me?
I promise I did.
Then the glow starts showing up.
Is Clear Better If I Have Plans After My Appointment?
This is one of the biggest reasons clients choose it.
If you're getting sprayed and then need to continue functioning like a normal human being, Clear can make the hours after your appointment feel much easier.
You don't have that visible cosmetic bronzer sitting on your skin while you're making dinner, answering the door or trying to avoid every light-colored object in your house.
I still want you following your post-tan instructions and being mindful while your color develops.
But Clear can make the whole process feel a little more discreet.
Does a Clear Spray Tan Come Out Lighter?
No.
Clear does not automatically mean lighter.
The lack of instant bronzer can make it feel like you're getting less color because you don't see that immediate transformation.
But the bronzer you see right after a traditional spray tan isn't the same thing as your developed tan.
Your actual color is happening underneath.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions I hear about clear spray tanning.
Clear describes the application experience, not how tan you're capable of becoming.
Is Rapid Darker Than Classic?
Not automatically.
And this is where I think people start overthinking spray tan menus.
Classic, Rapid and Clear are not simply:
Light.
Medium.
Dark.
They're different types of tanning experiences and development schedules.
How much color we create is a separate conversation.
I've been a licensed esthetician for more than 16 years, so I'm looking at your natural skin tone, undertones, skin condition and desired result when I'm choosing how to approach your tan.
You don't need to book “Rapid” because you want to be darker.
And you don't need to book “Classic” because you want something natural.
Tell me what you want your finished color to look like.
I'll help with the rest.
Which Spray Tan Is Best Before an Event?
All three can work beautifully.
The bigger question is:
What does your schedule look like after your appointment?
If you can get sprayed in the evening and go straight home, Classic may work perfectly.
If you want to rinse a few hours later, Rapid may make more sense.
If you need to get sprayed and still have things happening afterward, Clear may be your favorite option.
For weddings, vacations, photos and other important events, I generally recommend scheduling your tan 1–2 days beforehand so your color has time to fully develop and settle.
And if we're talking about your wedding specifically, I have an entire Glow Guide on when to schedule your wedding spray tan because that deserves its own conversation.
Which Spray Tan Is Best If You're Busy?
This one is easy.
For most clients with packed schedules, I would start by looking at Rapid or Clear.
That's one of the reasons I added options with shorter rinse windows to my menu.
Glow by Dominique is mobile because I want spray tanning to actually fit into real life.
I have plenty of clients who are working, doing school pickup, making dinner, getting kids to bed, packing for trips or trying to fit approximately 15 things into one afternoon.
Sometimes wearing a spray tan solution for 8–12 hours just doesn't make sense.
That's okay.
Your schedule is part of choosing your tan.
Which One Would I Personally Recommend?
This is going to sound incredibly unhelpful, but:
It depends.
And I actually think that's a good thing.
I don't believe everyone who books with me needs the same formula.
If you tell me:
“I'm getting sprayed at 6 PM and I'm going straight home.”
Classic may be perfect.
If you tell me:
“I'm getting sprayed at noon and absolutely do not want to sleep in it.”
I'm probably going to point you toward Rapid.
If you tell me:
“I have to pick my kids up afterward and I don't want to look freshly spray tanned.”
Hello, Clear.
Choosing your service becomes much easier when we start with what your actual day looks like.
Still Not Sure Which Spray Tan to Book?
Don't let choosing between Classic, Rapid and Clear be the reason you don't make the appointment.
You are not locked into figuring out your perfect formula by yourself from a booking menu.
Book the option that seems to fit your schedule best, and we'll talk through your skin, your desired color and your plans when we customize your glow.
Glow by Dominique offers mobile spray tanning throughout Wellen Park, Venice, North Port, Sarasota, Nokomis and surrounding areas.
Whether you choose Classic, Rapid or Clear, the end goal is exactly the same:
A natural-looking, customized glow that looks good on you.
Because the best spray tan isn't the one with the fanciest name.
It's the one that actually works for your skin and your life.
